Images that tell Stories

“I’ve always considered myself a storyteller…”

Noel McIntyre, Black and White, street, reportage and documentary photographer, Ireland

Noel McIntyre is a prolific creative, a filmmaker and photographer based in Ireland whose work is defined by an exceptional ability to tell human stories that are visually emotive, with clarity and sensitivity. Working fluidly across film and photography, Noel chooses the medium that best serves the story, allowing narrative, atmosphere, and authenticity to take precedence over form.

His photographic documentary work on Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, created over two consecutive years in his hometown of Mullingar, is regarded as the definitive photographic reference of Europe’s largest traditional music festival. The resulting publication has been a bestseller and is now held as an archival record by some of the world’s most respected institutions, including the Library of Trinity College Dublin, the Bodleian Library at Oxford University, Cambridge University Library, the National Library of Scotland, and the National Library of Wales and the Irish Traditional Music Archive.

His first short film,I Created Youwas screen at film festivals all over the World. Of a total of nineteen international awards received, three came from the International Diversity and Inclusion Film Festival in Hollywood, California including best new filmmaker for Noel. On his return from Hollywood Noel founded the Mullingar International Film Festival and hosted the inaugural event setting the bar at an attendance of 630 people, a number previously unheard of on the film festival circuit.

In 2025, Noel’s original image “Frenzy” was selected by the examinations board to feature in the Higher Level Art Paper of the Leaving Certificate Examination, where students were asked to critically discuss his work alongside historic figures such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo—a rare distinction for a contemporary Irish photographer.

Highly regarded by his peers, Noel’s reportage work has been repeatedly recognised by the Irish Professional Photographers and Videographers Association (IPPVA). He was awarded IPPVA Irish Reportage Photographer of the Year in 2024 and 2025, and Irish Commercial Videographer of the Year in 2022, 2023, and 2025. His work has also received international recognition through the Leica Fotografie International (LFI) Gallery, with multiple inclusions and selections as Leica Mastershots.

Demonstrating remarkable range, Noel is also a finalist in the World Sports Photographer of the Year 2026, further underlining his versatility across genres—from intimate cultural documentation to high-intensity global sport.

Grounded in Ireland yet resonant worldwide, Noel McIntyre’s work stands as a compelling record of place, people, and moment—crafted with integrity, depth, and a distinctive visual voice.

“I made a conscious decision to follow my nose, stop asking myself what others might think, develop my own style. It was only then that I found true satisfaction, the awards and accolades just seemed to follow from that point on…”
